This iconic 94,000-seater stadium in Nasrec needs little introduction following its global popularity and positioning during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Previously known as Soccer City, FNB Stadium has played host to some of the biggest, most memorable and most popular sports and music events this country has ever seen, including the opening ceremony and double header, group games, knockout fixtures, closing ceremony and the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. FNB Stadium regularly takes centre stage to full houses in domestic football league and cup matches, as well as international fixtures, international rugby test matches and the biggest global music superstars, including U2, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. FNB Stadium is, and has been, the go-to venue for other major events in the country, including the first speech delivered by Former President Nelson Mandela upon release from prison, political activist Chris Hani's funeral, and major local and international church events. The unique design of Africa's most popular stadium is well known and highly regarded both locally and abroad and is often fondly referred to as the 'Calabash' or 'African Pot'. Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs use FNB Stadium as their home ground.
